Hi!

I’m Bobby Teoh—an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist working out of the Prince of Wales Private Hospital and the Royal Hospital for Women in Randwick, Sydney. I also have Specialist rights at St Vincent’s Private Hospital.

why obstetrics?

Medicine is in my blood. My father was an Obstetrician, my siblings are all doctors and my mother studied Pharmacology. There was (and still is) a genuine love of Medicine in my family—I grew up listening to stories of the marvels of Medicine and learning about the wonders of the human body.

But for me, my destiny would be decided one afternoon when I was aged around 10. I was waiting for my father in his clinic in Malaysia, and it was there that I witnessed the most incredible thing—a woman in labour, assisted by my father, delivered a baby before my very eyes. I was in absolute awe and felt such respect for what that woman had achieved. Eight years later, I began a medical degree that would set me on the path to become the Obstetrician I am today.

My background

I completed my medical degree at the University of Sydney in 1996 and did the majority of my training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney. After four years there, I moved to St Vincent’s Hospital as the Gynaecology Pelvic Surgery Fellow to gain further skills in advanced laparoscopic surgery and Urogynaecology. Following that, I spent some time overseas in the UK, initially in Salisbury then at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital, London, one of the UK’s leading maternity units.

Two years later, I returned to Sydney and took up a position as a staff specialist at the Royal Hospital for Women, running their antenatal services, birthing suite and high-risk pregnancy clinic.

In 2006, I established my own practice in Sydney providing Obstetric and Gynaecological services. It gives me great pleasure to work in this field and to help women and their families through a very important time in their lives.

teaching

Teaching is also an integral part of my life. I believe that training residents and registrars is essential to ensure the survival of this intensive specialty. At the undergraduate level, I’m a Conjoint Lecturer of the University of New South Wales and have tutored, mentored and lectured medical students at various levels. Most recently, I’ve taken on midwifery students from the Charles Stuart University.

life

When I’m not at work and delivering babies, I love finding good authentic restaurants, experimenting with cooking at home with my wife and making that perfect cup of coffee!

I have a young family and try to keep up with my active son and daughter, with a third child on the way. My wife and I are also dog lovers and have welcomed three rescue dogs into our family over the years.
